Lincoln Perrry/Annex & Princeton Center Graduation CeremonyThe CLC volunteers were the first participants to be trained in Computer Basics. The volunteers learned the basics of a computer for 6 weeks. Those who pass were given certificates of completion at an award ceremony at Princeton Center in July 2001. This event also recognized the dedicated volunteers, business partners, and staff members who made the CLC better everyday.
Lincoln Perry Computer Learning Center UnveilingThe Bronzeville community were in attendance to the unveiling of the new Lincoln Perry Computer Learning Center in March 2001. Guestspeaker for the event was Congressman Bobby Rush. This event has marked the beginning of a community technical relationship between the residents, community leaders, and businesses in Bronzeville and senior residents of Lincoln Perry Apartments & Annex.
Annual Volunteers' BanquetTo recognize the dedication and hard work that all the resident volunteers have done for all DSSA Management properties, the company honored these esteemed guests with a banquet at South Shore Cultural Center in April 2001. Over 100 guests received certificates of appreciation and gift baskets. The gift baskets were a generous donation from The Popcorn Factory.
Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day 2002CommonCorps, the central planning committee for AmeriCorps & AmeriCorps* VISTA national service efforts in Chicagoland, hosted over 300 AmeriCorps & AmeriCorps* VISTA members to assist organizations with projects in the Bronzeville, Hyde Park, and Woodlawn communities in January 2002. Over 50 CommonCorps members assisted the residents of Lincoln Perry Apartments & Annex, Princeton Center Apartments, and Judge Green Apartments with arts and crafts projects. Residents were interviewed for "My Life Stories" accounts, taught how to personalize and create their own T-shirts or Greeting Cards, created scapebooks, and wrote poetry. At the end of the day, everyone were given the chance to display their artwork, recite their poetry works or sing one of their favorite song. |
