The Lincoln Perry Computer Learning Center has evolved with the heroic efforts of its Steering Committee who have dedicated themselves to creating a new vision for the historic Bronzeville Community. Lincoln Perry residents gathered together to develop a community  resource that could be used by residents and neighbors alike. Residents elected their peers as committee members to represent them in the CLC Steering Committee, which have been meeting since November, 2000. These resident committee members enlisted the guidance of many community builders. These dedicated community builders helped Lincoln Perry Committee Members define their goals and develop strategies to define this Model Computer Center.

Connections with the Community

Through a series of community meetings, residents decided that their Computer Learning Center should become a resource for the entire Bronzeville Community. Residents invited members of local churches, community groups, and schools to share the Computer Learning Center.  In March 2001, the Lincoln Perry Computer Learning Center was open with a formal unveiling ceremony for the residents of Lincoln Perry and Bronzeville communities.  Guestspeaker for the event was Congressman Bobby Rush.  In May 2001, a second Computer Learning Center was added for the residents of the Lincoln Perry Annex.

Success Stories

The Computer Learning Center has provided the Lincoln Perry community with a healthy environment for life enrichment. Computer classes from PC Basics to Emailing has been offered to the residents and their visitors.  In addition to classes, computer related activities were also offered such as the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire Tournament, a popular game second to Solitaire for the residents.   As a result, the Lincoln Perry Computer Learning Center has become an activity hub where residents join together to teach each other new computer skills and share stories of family life. As residents cross the bridge of the "digital divide," they grab the hands of their neighbors and learn together.
