Princeton Center Computer Learning Center

Princeton Center Computer Learning Center has been a hub for community interaction. In the past year, more than 80 residents have graduated from Princeton's basic computer classes. Many of these residents make daily visits to the Computer Learning Center where they may communicate with their family via the Internet, create personalized greeting cards and banners improve their typing skills and enjoy computer games with their neighbors. Several residents have went a step beyond, and continued their training at the various community CTC's, and Community Colleges. A couple disabled residents have developed their computer skills and resumes which has lead them to new employment.

Connections with the Community

In December 1999, the University Of Illinois Extension Center partnered with DSSA Management at Princeton Center. Together, Extension and DSSA's Resident Services Department have joined forces to provide educational activities which extend beyond the walls of the Computer Learning Center.  In a Resident survey, more than 110 residents expressed an interest in learning computer skills.  University of Illinois Extension Educators and DSSA's Resident Service Coordinator gathered a group of Resident Leaders to serve on a Steering Committee.  The Steering Committee would meet monthly to discuss residents' educational needs and interests.

What's New

Princeton Center Computer Learning Center finally steps into the 21st Century with brand new computer equipment. Princeton Center is now equipped with eight (8) brand new Gateway Pentium 4 computer systems and a multifunction Color Copier/ Printer/Scanner/Fax machine. Our resident volunteers are currently preparing new materials to begin their training courses for the new year as well as recruiting volunteers to become trainers and lab assistants. Hooray!
