Bridging The "Digital Divide"

Welcome to the “Windy City.”   The CTC VISTA Project in Chicago, Illinois is a collaboration among The National CTC VISTA Project, DSSA Management, Inc. and the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA).  There are five (5) Computer Learning Centers located in the seven (7) CHA Senior and Disabled properties.    Four of these centers are staffed by AmeriCorps VISTAs, providing computer training and lab monitoring services for the residents of each property.

The National CTC VISTA Project — a collaboration between AmeriCorps*VISTA, the Community Technology Centers' Network (CTCNet), and the College of Public and Community Service at the University of Massachusetts at Boston — provides coordination, recruitment, training and support for more than 80 AmeriCorps*VISTAs who work in community technology centers (CTCs) across the country. Participating VISTAs attend a periodic training and orientation institute at the UMass Boston College of Public and Community Service, integrated with the developing CPCS program in Community Media and Technology, and the national CTCNet conference in June.

DSSA Management Inc. has been managing CHA Senior & Disabled Properties since 1995.  From its inception, DSSA has been committed to a blended management style where they meet more than a resident's housing needs.   Investing in the lives of the those that reside in DSSA-managed properties is a hallmark of DSSA's mission.

Over 60 years, the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), the third largest housing authority in the nation, has been providing housing for more than 130,000 low and moderate income residents in the City of Chicago. The authority consists of 17 federally funded family developments. It also consists of senior housing, scattered site housing and City/State Housing located throughout the city and section 8 vouchers and certificates.

What's New

Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day 2002

On January 21, 2002, CommonCorps, the central planning committee for AmeriCorps & AmeriCorps* VISTA national service efforts in Chicagoland, came to the Bronzeville, Hyde Park, and Englewood communities to assist community organizations with projects for that day.  Thirty (30) of the 300 AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps* VISTAs members came to Lincoln Perry Apartments. These bright volunteers engaged in the My Life Stories interviews with the senior residents of Lincoln Perry Apartments & Annex, Princeton Center Apartments, and Judge Green Apartments.   Other activities included scrapbook creations, personalized T-Shirt designs, poetry writings, and voters' registration.
